Are you looking for a homemade gift to give for a special occasion or a great way to add some extra flavor to your baking? This post is for you! No massive intro…this is it!

Quick tips before you start…
- I have friends who prefer more expensive vodka. I have used both expensive and cheap vodka and have had great results with both.
- More vanilla beans = richer flavor. I use about 4 beans per 750ml.
- Make sure you write your brew date on the top of your bottle.
- Put your beans directly in the liquor bottle to save money on a cute container.
Where to find Vanilla Beans
Vanilla beans are expensive. Period. You can usually only find one or two in a container at the store for $12.99. I was able to find some at our local Amish store for 2/ $10.
By far the BEST deal has been Costco! 10 Organic vanilla beans for $17.99. I jumped right on that deal the moment that I saw it!! (Image below)

The quality of your beans will 100% impact the flavor of your extract. I highly recommend shopping organic, pure beans.
Super simple recipe:
This recipe is VERY simple.
- 4 Vanilla beans
- 750ml bottle of vodka
1) slice your beans down the middle. You’ll find the tiny seeds inside. These babies are GOLD.
2) Add your beans directly into your bottle of vodka. If you’re using a special container, make sure it seals completely.
3) give a little shake and you’re done! Store in a cool dry place. Leave it alone for 2-6 months. The longer it sits, the richer the flavor.
How to Refill your Extract
Top with more vodka after each use, give the bottle a shake, and store in a cool, dry place.
Add more beans over time to maintain a rich flavor.
How long is it good for?
I have read varying opinions on how long this extract lasts. I have friends who have reused the same bottle over the course of YEARS.
