Have you ever perused around pinterest or Etsy and had an unfamiliar font catch your eye? Or been in the middle of designing a project just to feel stuck because none of your available fonts seemed to satisfy you? Have no fear! It is both fast and easy to dowload new fonts onto your computer. Today, I will be focusing on downloading fonts specifically on an HP computer. I have used this method on other PCs as well. At the end of this tutorial, I will also provide instructions on how to upload your new fonts to Canva.
Let’s begin!
To begin, go to dafont.com and browse until you find a font to your liking. All of these fonts are free for personal use and can be easily downloaded and installed. Once you finda font, click “download” on the right hand side.
Next, open your “downloads” on your desktop. Right click on the “zipped” downloaded file and click “extract all“.
A dialogue will pop up and ask you to decide where you would like to extract your files to. You can either go with the location automatically chosen for your or decide for yourself. I usually just go ahead and hit “extract“.
Once, extracted, open your unzipped file and click on the font file- it will end in .tff (TrueType) or .otf (OpenType). You will have the open to either “print” or “install” the font. Printing will give you an idea of how the font looks at different font sizes. Go ahead and “install” the font.
This font is now available on all programs on your computer that pulls from your personal font files- Microsoft programs, graphic design programs, etc. It is not, however, available for use on Canva and you need to follow additional instructions to install new fonts to use. I’ll include that in the next installment of this tutorial!
I hope that this tutorial helped and you download all of the lovely fonts that your heart desires!
